Liftgates

LiftgatesĀ or lift gates are the hydraulic platform on the back of a truck or trailer that can be lowered down to the ground, allowing freight to be placed on it and then raised back up to deck height. It makes for easy freight loading and freight unloading. If you have a 500 lb truck engine or other heavy equipment and need to get it loaded; a liftgate is used for that purpose. Carriers do not have these units on every truck and trailer because of the cost of each liftgate. Attaching one to every truck or trailer could cost millions of dollars. Some carriers have over 20,000 trailers. Therefore, carriers may only one or two of these units available at each terminal.

Anymore, carriers charge extra, a liftgate fee, for the use of these units. Carriers charge around $85 to $400 for their use. Payless Freight has negotiated discounts with the carriers for a more reasonable fee; which we pass on to our customers.
